I've never been sentimental about dates, but learning about the return of early 00s backyard show series "Under The Clothesline" has got me feeling nostalgic. (It's taking place today in a couple of hours in a backyard in Marrickville, featuring SeaLifePark playing their first show in what appears to be decades, and Doldrums).

I never went to one of these gigs - the series seems to have mostly taken place before I started going to shows, or at least when I was still very new to Sydney - but it was one of the first reference points that was name-checked when I asked about putting on house shows on Mess+Noise (no longer exists).

Those house shows became The Gate.

While looking for my records of this conversation, I found the blog post where I originally announced this project in 2010. I've republished the original post, which includes some photos and a description of how the model worked. Thanks to the Wayback Machine for making this possible - we need this to not disappear.
